Representatives of the Association of Insurance Brokerage Companies, led by President Olivera Klincharova, held a working meeting in Ohrid with two prominent figures in insurance theory and practice: Nic De Maesschalck, President of BIPAR – the European Federation of Insurance Intermediaries and member of EIOPA’s Insurance and Reinsurance Stakeholder Group, and Prof. Karel Van Hulle, the architect of the Solvency II Directive.
The topics discussed at the meeting were based on observations made by the Insurance Supervision Agency, and included: risk analysis, publication of brokerage commission rates, unequal treatment of insurance brokers compared to other insurance intermediaries, implementation of the IDD (Insurance Distribution Directive), the role of the financial ombudsman, the participation of brokers in public procurement processes, exchange of experiences from multiple countries, and the latest trends in the insurance sector.
The aim was to gain a broader perspective on the challenges faced by the insurance brokerage sector in Macedonia, as well as to address broader issues related to aligning operations with EU standards and directives.
