The President of the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia held a working meeting with Elena Petrova, Director of the Public Revenue Office (PRO), as well as representatives from the PRO, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Digital Transformation, to exchange information regarding the implementation process of the electronic invoicing system (e-invoice).
At the meeting, President Branko Azeski emphasized that the introduction of e-invoicing is one of the private sector’s priority issues, which the Chamber has consistently raised with various competent authorities and bodies over the past 10 years. He noted that, as a representative of the private sector, the Chamber considers the introduction of e-invoicing a significant step toward the digitalization of the Macedonian economy, while also contributing to a strengthened fight against the shadow economy and fostering a favorable business environment. For this reason, the Chamber fully offers its capacities and resources to actively participate in the process. Azeski stressed that the Chamber’s involvement will contribute to a more efficient system implementation, as well as the information and education of the business community.
Elena Petrova, Director of the Public Revenue Office, pointed out that the PRO’s focus in recent times has been on establishing active communication with taxpayers, for which purpose the Tax Compliance Council has been established. She explained that with e-invoicing, the entire invoicing cycle — from creation, delivery, and confirmation — will be conducted automatically within a single integrated electronic system, with clear protocols and protective mechanisms. The data from invoices will also be automatically used in other processes such as accounting, payment, and record-keeping. She briefly outlined the planned timeline for the e-invoicing system rollout, the changes in the PRO’s business processes, and the completion of integrating these processes into a unified system.
The meeting also addressed specific issues related to the operationalization of the e-invoicing system and the active involvement of the Chamber in the process, which will ensure that business entities receive timely information and are fully prepared, enabling the efficient implementation of the planned reform.
