The working meeting between the President of the Economic Chamber, Branko Azeski, a group of prominent businesspeople who are Chamber members, and the Minister of Finance in the RNM Government, Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, was one of the regular meetings that the business community holds with the Ministry on an ongoing basis. The discussions focused on current issues of interest to the business sector, aiming to shape positions and policies on key matters affecting the business environment, especially in light of global geopolitical developments that influence economic activity and business predictability.
President Azeski emphasized that the Chamber's priority remains maintaining communication with businesspeople through public-private dialogue, and that both entrepreneurs and the Chamber must be involved in shaping positions and conducting analyses on economic conditions. Key issues for the Chamber include exports, gas infrastructure, the gray economy, increasing administrative efficiency, and defining the mechanism for refunding the solidarity tax—which the Constitutional Court has ruled must be returned to companies within a maximum period of five years. Azeski pointed out that five years is an exceptionally long period, especially considering that companies had very short deadlines to pay those funds into the state budget.
The Chamber places particular importance on the upcoming investment activities announced by international donors, emphasizing that domestic Macedonian companies should be engaged in the highest possible percentage. Only in this way can business entities be built up to become competitive in the future and expand into the regional market and beyond, conquering third markets as well.
The ECNM President expressed satisfaction with the implementation of the Hungarian loan intended for companies, affirming that it is proceeding as planned. He also noted that the business community is pleased with the government's efforts, although the pace of implementation is somewhat slow.
Finance Minister Gordana Dimitrieska-Kochoska, during her visit to the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, announced the reduction of customs tariffs for approximately 70 products, mainly raw materials and intermediate goods. As she stated, a draft law is already in government procedure that will lower the tariff rates on a number of products, enabling companies to increase both production and exports. The tariff reduction for 50% of the products is expected to take effect on 1 July 2025. Regarding the Strategic Partnership Agreement with the United Kingdom, the Minister explained that it involves £5 billion that can be drawn over the next ten years, with disbursements to be made based on ready-to-implement projects. Financing will be sought only once a project is finalized, and the terms will depend on the repayment period—with the most favorable financing sources to be selected.
