Deepening Professional Cooperation for Building Safety

 The President of the Association of Construction, Building Materials and Non-metal Industries at the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia, Andrea Serafimovski, held a productive meeting with Prof. Dr. Igor Gjorgjiev, Director of the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (IZIIS), and Deputy Director Prof. Dr. Radmila Sharikj-Makreska. IZIIS is a long-standing member of the Association.

This meeting, focused on exploring opportunities to enhance cooperation between the two sides, reaffirmed the importance of their partnership in strengthening construction safety in the country. Discussions included the need for a joint approach to drafting relevant legislation, aligning with Eurocodes, enabling capital investments, participating in expert debates, and presenting a united front on the EU and international markets.
“Our collaboration with the Institute is key to ensuring the safety and quality of construction projects, especially when it comes to earthquake-resistant structures. As a member of the Economic Chamber, IZIIS demonstrates not only technical expertise but also strong dedication to advancing the construction industry. Through joint efforts, we can integrate the latest engineering advancements and raise the safety level of our buildings,” emphasized Serafimovski.
Representatives from the Institute stressed that continued collaboration with the Economic Chamber and its member companies will be essential for the further development of earthquake-resistant technologies and standards. They pointed out the ongoing need to educate all stakeholders in the construction sector and to adopt the latest scientific approaches that can improve buildings’ resilience to earthquakes and other natural disasters.
The meeting was an excellent opportunity to exchange ideas and propose new initiatives that will strengthen cooperation between scientific and business communities, as well as to intensify technical support for the construction sector. Both parties agreed to continue working together to modernize construction standards and practices, ensuring the safety and durability of infrastructure projects across the country.
The cooperation between the Association of Construction, Building Materials and Non-metal Industries, and the Institute of Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology remains essential for the development of the construction industry and the safety of buildings, and will continue to have a positive impact for all participants in the construction process.
