Alkaloid: 90 Years of Growth, Investment, and Exports

By Branko Azeski, President of the Economic Chamber

These days, one of our most successful companies marks 90 years since its founding. Having weathered three distinct states and several contrasting socioeconomic systems, it has consistently stood at the pinnacle of Macedonia’s economic reality. Crucially, it has remained a loyal member of the Economic Chamber. Yet in the collective memory of the business community, Alkaloid will above all be remembered as a stable, successful, professional, and export-oriented company.

Its continuous expansion is perceived as something normal, rooted in the core components required to meet strategic goals: experience, a highly educated workforce, a strong management team, and a proven business leader.

The Economic Chamber takes pride in counting Alkaloid among its members and is honored by the high standard of professionalism that characterizes our bilateral cooperation. In this day and age, empty phrases hold little value; tangible activities do.

Alkaloid and the Chamber have consistently stood as the first actors to assist others. Such was the case during the COVID-19 crisis, when raw material logistics ground to a halt and teams worked around the clock, deploying networks to dismantle blockades along the Croatian border. The same held true when defending regional interests in Brussels against administrative hurdles imposed on Balkan business, acting as representatives on the WB6 CIF Business Council. The same commitment has guided ongoing support extended to institutions and figures across culture and the arts.

While Alkaloid represents a brand anchored by established flagship names like Caffetin, Becutan, Pancef, and Good Nature teas, it also boasts a leader widely recognized across business circles as a benchmark for contemporary enterprise management. Having an executive of his caliber and generation is an exceptional asset for a country like ours. I am convinced that by Alkaloid’s centennial, we will witness a more prosperous and vibrant country, and that Alkaloid will reach €1 billion in turnover—an achievement that will bring pride to all of us, to Mr. Trajche Mukaetov, who set these milestones in motion, and to the thousands of employees who have contributed to Alkaloid over the decades.

Congratulations on this landmark anniversary!
