The Fifth Session of the Hungarian–Macedonian Joint Commission on Economic Cooperation took place in Budapest on 13–14 November 2025. Delegations from both countries met in a constructive and forward-looking atmosphere, reaffirming their commitment to advancing economic and trade cooperation. Expert working groups convened on 13 November, followed by the plenary session held on 14 November.
Throughout the two days, both sides reviewed the current state of bilateral trade, exchanged statistical data, and emphasized their shared objective of further strengthening economic ties and stimulating investment between the two countries.
The voice of the Macedonian business sector - the Economic Chamber of North Macedonia (ECNM), actively contributed to the work of the Commission, participating in the expert meetings as well as in the plenary session. Representing the Chamber, Daniel Matrakoski, International Cooperation Expert, delivered an address highlighting key priorities for the Macedonian business community.

In his remarks, Matrakoski drew attention to the persistent challenges related to border efficiency, particularly at the Horgoš–Röszke crossing. He emphasized that “long queues, extended waiting times, and persistent technical formalities remain among the most pressing concerns for our business community,” noting that such delays undermine competitiveness and obstruct the predictable flow of goods essential for regional integration.
He further underscored the importance of intensifying direct business contacts between the two countries, stating that “more frequent business meetings and direct exchanges between our two chambers and business communities can significantly advance our cooperation.” Such interactions, he added, build the trust and mutual understanding needed to overcome practical obstacles.
Matrakoski also welcomed the emphasis placed within the Joint Protocol on improving connectivity, reducing delays, and expanding Green Line corridors at key border crossings. He expressed optimism that these commitments will soon translate into concrete improvements for companies on both sides.
The Fifth Session of the Joint Commission once again confirmed the mutual determination of Hungary and Macedonia to deepen economic cooperation and create more favorable conditions for trade and investment. The Economic Chamber stands ready to continue its active role in facilitating bilateral business dialogue and supporting the implementation of the Commission’s conclusions.
